Wardrobe References

The wardrobe inspiration in this scene is mostly driven by the movie Highway (2014) where the exploration of main protagonist Veera (played by Alia Bhatt
) is captured by the use of comfortable winter layering and earthy wear being travel friendly. The color palette in the movie is subtle showcasing shawls, stoles, simple and sensible outerwear are used to convey a feeling of emotional fragility and silent strength; a quality that my characters have in their appearance. The female lead; Mehak also wears a rich maroon Ajrak shawl, and black and blue travel friendly, comfortable, monochrome winter clothes to display her artistic nature appeal to the low-key but communicative style that Veera had in Highway. Her wearing blue cardign twice shows her possessiveness to the things she likes adding as a personality trait for her.

As for the male character Adeel; the grey coat and black scarf resonates with the minimal and grounded nature of the film that lets the environment and the feelings to play a visual role. In the market scene Adeel wearing kurta shalwar – an outfit that brings his cultural and personality trait of showing simplicity. This impact is beneficial in retaining a natural, intimate and journey like effect in keeping with the thematic feel of Highway.

The wardrobe of the character of Mehak’s Father was in travel friendly clothing; leather jacket and jeans; reflecting a tourist on vacation rather than in his original ethnic wear deeply rooted to his culture. On the contrary his portrayal reflected his deeply rooted cultural values demanding her daughter to be prohibited from love.

The wardrobe of the hotel manager was formal clothing but due to intense cold weather, a puffer jacket is worn by the character. It reflects clothing of the Gilgiti locals. Puffer jackets are quite popular amongs the locals in Gilgit. The jacket is trendy and provides comfortable protection against the intense cold weather in Gilgit.
