Rationale & Short Film Plan

Rationale:

I had selected this issue since today cultural identity is a burning problem among young people, particularly in the society where traditional attitudes gradually give way to the new way of life. Ajrak is a powerful image of Sindhi culture and heritage that is easily overlooked or turned into a decoration. I was interested in this documentary to gain an insight into the way culture is experienced emotionally as opposed to being explained in an academic manner. This subject is topical as it makes the audience think of personal relation to heritage and individual self-identification.

Short Film Plan:

The short film combines the observational mode as the majority of the scenes include real sites, natural sound, and authencity played by the actors. The camera follows events as they occur without much narration or even an explanation. The participatory component is also present with the film being more of a personal experience and emotional outlook. It is this mix that enables the viewer to get to experience reality as well as to connect emotionally with the topic.
